Well, it's been a while since we wrote a news letter, and if you hadn't' heard thru the grapevine, we both visited Europe to check out our Machines, Hotels and reconnect with our tour routes and find out the changes from 2 years ago (also to off load a heap of surplus tour equipment) this of course meant riding in our beloved European Alps, Greece, Italy and so on and so on. I shouldn't forget to mention our good friend Leslie from Boston joined us on our quest to restart our European Tours again! in 2022!
We have now arrived back in NZ MIQ a week ago and spreading the word on our two offered European motorcycle tours for June & July 2022.
Whilst checking out our past tour Hotels, we did have to find a couple of new ones for 2022 and beyond. (change of owners & refits)
Overall, our findings in Europe were extremely positive and apart from mask wearing in shops and indoor restaurants (until seated) there was very little difference from our 2019 tours, a few differences we did find are listed here--
Hotel rooms could be a bit harder to find over the summer season as many Europeans were travelling internally, in their own countries and other EU countries.
Hardly any English being spoken anywhere (apart from in our Hotels) as there were next to no Indian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Japanese, British or Americans travelling because of Covid-19 restrictions in their countries, so it was cool to travel around with the locals and pretend we were Germans (as our number plates indicated)
Tours for offer out of Munich are in June--Italy/Northern Greece and a dip into Bulgaria (June 17th - 6th July 2022),
If there is sufficient numbers, this tour would be partnered with our Balkan Tours partner Thanasis from Odyssey Moto tours ("King of the Balkans") please contact us regarding this tour for more information!
Then our Great Kiwi European Alps tour, 6 countries all in the amazing Alps regions, this is a spectacular tour! (15th July to 31st July 2021)
So shake off the Covid-19 blues with a unforgettable adventure in the best place in the world to ride motorcycles! http://www.bekersmct.co.nz/economy-european-alps-tour.html
Unfortunately, we have had to postpone our Faaker See Tour until 2024, because as at the moment we prefer to travel thru Schengen countries, as the rules are pretty much the same in each country.
Now to a much sadder note: we pay tribute to a dear friend, riding buddy, fellow motorcycle tour adventurer. Brian Bach, we had known Brian from 2000 when he and Val toured in New Zealand, for some reason Graham and Brian hit if off (because if you had known Brian he was a very bright boy, not saying that Graham isn't, lol). Val and Brian came back after the tour and stayed with us in Queenstown, and that was the start of a long friendship, which lead to many trips to Oregon and around USA also many rides around NZ and lots of European trips and the group of friends multiplied into a bunch of like minded motorcycle adventurers. Brian will be greatly missed by all, especially from Val, his partner since she was 16. All our love goes out to Val and the family.
